The Mount, on the other hand, was completely enchanting and I found myself wishing I could stay the whole day. I've read Age of Innocence and Ethan Frome (which I cannot remember a single thing from, but I know I read it!), but I didn't really know anything personal about Edith Wharton which is a shame, because she is one interesting woman! She is one of the pioneers of interior design and while I'm fairly sure she wouldn't approve of my style, I most definitely could appreciate hers. Her house was a delight to tour, and my only reservation while we did so was wishing I could spend more time in each room. Imagine my delight when I discovered that we were allowed to wander at our leisure after the guided tour (so often, you get one look around, and that's it). I felt positively decadent wandering through Edith's rooms, and no surprise, I was particularly taken with the library.
I could seriously feel at home at The Mount, and I highly recommend you visit it as soon as you can!
