So it's only good karma that every now and then, hopefully just before my head has swelled past the size of a watermelon, I get an unsettling reminder that no matter how many books I get away with curling up with on the weekends, and despite the hours I lose reading journals and blog posts about books for children of all ages, OF COURSE there are still very many wonderful books I don't know about. I am but one librarian, after all; the authors have me greatly outnumbered.
Today was one of those lucky/ego-squashing days. I definitely had my hubris checked when I was informed by my good colleagues of Alexander McCall Smith's Precious Ramotswe series for kids! The first book came out in 2012 and despite considering myself a solid #1 Ladies Detective Agency, I completely missed it! There are now two books in the series with the third coming out in the fall. I definitely feel some embarrassment for missing such a large boat, but darn it all, I'm also so excited to have two more great books to immediately add to my to-read pile. Thank heavens and how grand to not, in fact, know-it-all (but please don't tell my students I ever admitted such a thing - they wouldn't believe you anyway).
